Sony XC-56 Still Going Strong In Machine Vision

With over a decade under it's belt the Sony XC-56 Progressive Scan CCD camera was one of the first designed specifically for machine vision applications that was widely accepted by the industry. It enjoyed broad support across most computer operating systems and digital acquisition products. Though in truth the XC-55 was the predecessor of the XC-56, they are virtually identical products save for a change in imaging sensor in 2005 when the XC-56 was introduced.

How long will this gem continue to run? That hard to say, particularly given the on and off again claims by Sony that it's discontinuing production of all CCD sensors. But who knows, perhaps we'll soon see a model XC-56B with a CMOS or CMOSIS imaging sensor.
