That role is expanding quickly along with the technology.  AI will replace histogram oriented gradient (HOG) technologies used in machine vision, enabling true learning systems to evolve and reducing costs.

By 2025 Ambroggi suggests all vehicles will include substantial AI components and autonomous vehicles will be common place.

In the human-machine interface in vehicles, AI will play a role in speech and gesture recognition, eye-tracking, driver monitoring and natural language interfaces, according to IHS Technology.
